I'm a NC transplant from the sunny climes of California. My husband and I bought a 1960's split level outside Raleigh, NC and we're slowly fixing + decorating our little hearts out.
While up in RI we stayed at the Nylo in Warwick. We got it through Priceline at a steal. It's a great little hotel in a former textile mill. The complex is the old headquarters of Fruit of the Loom.
Each room is stylishly decorated and features polished concrete floors, comfy beds, a great coffeemaker and a flat-screen TV.
Although we didn't eat at the restaurant, it's got a hip little bar right on the river. There's an outdoor patio that looks great for warm weather relaxin'. I love the hanging ball chairs throughout the lobby and bar.
We're back from the Northeast and the wedding. It was lovely - set in the Aldrich mansion on the water in RI. The weather cooperated perfectly, Sunday was even downright hot which I understand is a rarity for April in New England.
Congrats to the couple and have a lovely European honeymoon.
Who knew this super cute skirt is from WalMart?! I avoid the place with a passion but I had to hit up their pharmacy today for my $9 script (Walgreens charges me $30) and I almost bought this. It's perfect for me - A-line, floaty with a touch of pink! But then I remembered it was Earth Day and I really shouldn't have been in WalMart anyway so I moved along. But it's cute, no?
That's what I call a bed. I wish I had some upholstery skillz as mad as these! Oh yeah, and the creativity to pick that print.
I'm attempting a simple DIY upholstered headboard shortly but it's going to be pretty basic. There are plenty of make your own headboard tutorials out there on the internets and I think I have found one that I can follow. I just need some foam and a piece of plywood and we're off to the races.
I spied this on the Better Homes & Gardens website. I'm thinking of adding a bench at the foot of the guest bedroom. I like the way they used two step-tables as a bench and added a cushion. Clever! I have two of these tables that I could try this with straight away. Mine won't look nearly as cute but it might be worth a shot. I'll report back with results ASAP.
image I scored this J Crew dress off eBay for this month's wedding we are attending. I need a cardi to go with it. image
These are the shoes I think I am going to wear. Though mine aren't patent and are more of a nude. $6 brand new at Goodwill, baby! image I'm thinking of a clutch, too. Maybe I can score something at the thrift. I'd never use a clutch for day to day stuff so there's no way I'm spending more than $20 on one.
Friday night we hit up The Cupcake Shoppe in Raleigh. We went out for First Friday when galleries and studios are open late with no intentions of consuming cupcakes but I couldn't resist.
An adorable shop with yummy treats - I had a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting and Jake had a classic chocolate/chocolate combo. The cakes are nice and moist and the frosting is generous. A bit too much for me but frosting lovers will be pleased!
Here's the peacock blue wall in my bedroom. It's very rich so I did two walls and I will do the other 2 in anaccent color - I'm thinking a nice warm beige. I love the combo of my yellow velvet chair and the blue wall.
The color is "Pacific Palisades" from Benjamin Moore.
