Hung

I decided to move some stuff around in the house and ended up filling one of the master bedroom walls with items with no other home at the moment. I need one more small thing to hang right above the chair and I'm calling it good.

Best part, this was all stuff I had already, so cost = nada!

Stick em Up

byrdiekids

After using some vinyl decals to spruce up the office at work, I started thinking how I could use them around the house. We're going to paint our hall bath this weekend so it will soon be ready for a few decorative touches. There are a lot of great options on etsy, as well as the usual suspect, blik. I'm leaning towards the cute birds in cages.

Costume

This Martha Stewart ghost costume is brilliant. The price? A not so brilliant $150! But an enterprising and crafty person could easily create this with yards of tulle and white underclothes.

Just playing around with Jake's new camera (Lumix DMC LX3) and caught this crazy little bug chilling out on my basil plant.

Louis Theroux

Meet Louis Theroux, my fave British TV presenter. He's the son of the afore-blogged Paul Theroux and a charming guy. I first stumbled across him when I was living in the UK and soaking up BBC.

He does interesting documentaries, mostly about weird people , places and subcultures in the US.
He hosts the engaging and scary The Most Hated Family in America about the boneheads over at Westboro Baptist Church, available in 8 parts on YouTube.

There, ahem, might be a body of his work floating around on the internets for download but you didn't hear it from me.

The Happy Isles of Oceania

Just finishing up this tome by the cranky Paul Theroux about his epic journey through the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Polynesia and beyond. It's a little slow and Theroux's a bit of a curmudgeon but it's a fascinating look at the islands and cultures of the peoples spread across a giant swath of the the southern hemisphere.

I am *such* a nonfiction reader - I can plow through a book of nonfiction a week whereas I plod through most fiction with great pain (with some exceptions, of course).

Weekend

If you need me Saturday, I'll be hunkered down catching up on season 2 of Mad Men to prep for Sunday's premiere of season 3.

Beach Update

Beach highlights

We hit up Ocean Isle Beach, NC for a long weekend. Ben posed, mamaw soaked up the sun, I fried and tried to fly a kite and we all ate seafood boil. Well, Jake ate mac and cheese.

Next year, it's gotta be a full week.

Cadman Spine Bookcase

I'm liking these shelves from West Elm. I could do one of each, in white, to flank my credenza in the living room. I wonder if it's worth trying to build my own? Probably not...

Overstock Rugs

Overstock has a huge selection of rugs in all sizes. Some are fug but I thought these were all nice and could work for the dining room. I moved a sisal rug I had in there into the guest bedroom to disguise some stains created by a certain, ahem, beagle. Now I need something that will hide dirt and wear well.

You can't beat the shipping prices.
