Print

I first saw Wexford Girl's rendition of the iconic 49 mile scenic drive sign several years back when we were still living in San Francisco. I always meant to pick one up but never got around to it. It popped into my head the other night and I decdied to do a quick etsy search I discovered a print for under $20! It's perfect for the gallery wall I'm working on in the master BR. Can't wait to get it in the mail!

Snap

I remember the first time I heard of such a thing as a fish taco, it sounded like the most repulsive thing ever! now I can't get enough of them. This Mexican red snapper sandwich is almost like a take on a fish taco. From my fave recipe source, Rachael Ray. Even though the summer is over and the leaves are starting to fall here in North Carolina, a summery sandwich still hits the spot. These are so easy and simple - I left off the radishes becuase I don't especially like them and it was still super tasty.

Bath progress

Bath progress
The bathroom in the hall is coming along. This room is hard to photograph. It doesn't have a window so the light is a little harsh. Its small, too, so it's difficult to get the entire room accurately depicted. On the right is the terrible sponge paint from the previous owners. I've painted over it with a chalky white and added a gray stripe. I'm toying with painting the vanity gray, too but I might wait on that project.

Still a lot of work to do but at least it's no longer in the 80's.

Sammies

Another recipe recommendation from yours truly the newly inspired cook. Buffalo chicken club sandwiches from Rachael Ray. I know she's not for everyone, what with the Martha-esque overexposure but her recipes are generally easy and tasty.

My blue cheese was looking a little fuzzy so tossed it and instead used a mashed up Laughing Cow cheese instead of blue cheese and creme fraiche. Worked out well but next time I swing by the grocery for some blue because spicy + blue cheese is such a yummy combo to me

Hallo weeny

How charming is this gnome costume from etsy seller Uniquery?

This one is also nice. Bonus points for furry beard.

Shop

Last week I had a clothing freak-out and decided all my current stuff was busted. My summer work wardrobe was wearing thin (literally) and I was tired to death of wearing the same darn thing over and over again. Now that fall's here I decided to treat myself to a little retail therapy:

Banana Republic Jackson pants. These fit me well and I love that I can rely on a pair without having to try on eleventy billion different kinds. They are also reliably on sale and on eBay, too. Note: I fill these babies out much more than the skinny-minny model, these are great for pear-shaped gals.

Silk dress from Martin + Osa. I have to go to a work-related benefit in a few weeks and need something dressy. With a pair of heels and the right accessories, this simple dress will fit the bill. I tried on some of the Mad Men-inspired dresses from BR but they were all tight in the thighs and bum. Not built for the bottom-heavy.

These gladiator-inspired sandals were on sale @ BR but I thought it wouldn't be prudent to buy sandals on the last day of summer.

Dins

food 002
Tonight's dinner was chicken milanese with spinach salad -an easy recipe from La Martha. I swapped out the arugula she calls for with baby spinach. I love recipes with less than 10 ingredients!

I am such a happier gal when I can prepare real food at home. It's easy to get lazy and fall back on frozen meals, take out or cereal but much more satisfying to actually cook.

Pressd

Just saw this cute alphabet letterpress poster over on ApartmentTherapy and picked it up! I was looking for an 8 x 10 item for a frame I got at the TJ Maxx and this fit the bill perfectly.
From Etsy seller greenchairpress.

Tabled

I picked up this coffee table in a warm honey-ish brown from the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams outlet in Hickory over the weekend. It was $50! Apparently, it sells for much more than that retail. I can't even buy a crummy table from CL for that price. Jake is always annoyed by my bargain hunting, especially when he has to unload the car + dog to make it all fit. But I just can't help myself sometimes.

Spent the day hiking here yesterday. It's some of the last old-growth forest in the eastern US. It's way out on the most western edge of North Carolina near the Tennessee line. So pretty!

This would be a lovely fall bag. From the olde J.Crew.

Footie

Saw this charming little ottoman over here. It's from HSN - the Nate Berkus line! At $399 it's not a huge bargain but might be worth watching to see if it might go on clearance.
