Diggin Up The Yard

A big patch of weeds in our backyard went to the great composter in the sky a few weeks ago.  We decided to take a chance at planting some spring grass in the space.  We tilled and then raked.  Very exciting!

Paint it Green

This ugly monstrosity has been sitting on our backyard for the two years we've owned the house. It's actually useful, despite the caving-in floor. We keep random garden stuff and our lawnmower in it.  And with no budget to replace it, let's just paint it!

But dang, why did someone use what appears to be DUCT TAPE on it? Why? It left ugly rusty marks.

A half gallon of exterior paint and primer later, we've got this:

It's still an ugly, but it isn't the hideous eyesore it was before. Now, to fix the caving-in floor so I don't break an ankle.

(I'll admit, we didn't paint the back or other side yet.  No one will see it so it's falling to the bottom of the to-do list.)

One Outdoor Project 50% Done

Finished my rock walkway a few weeks ago. Now, the mulching and weed-management begins.


It's gonna take a lot of mulch; 7 bags of stuff from Lowe's barely makes a dent!

This is what a little less than a ton of gravel looks like. Ain't much, huh? My trusty red wheelbarrow stands at the ready.

This is what the pathway on the side of the house looked like. It's a mini oak tree farm. Sounds charming but it's really not. More like a growing forest of horrors.

And here's the path with some gravel laid. I moved said ton of gravel myself! Never underestimate the power of a girl with a flat front shovel and a wheelbarrow.

Spring!

What a difference a week makes! Our azaleas just burst out in color this weekend due to the 80+ degree temps.

I love living in an older neighborhood filled with mature landscaping and tall trees. With the afternoon light filtering through the leaves, it's really a gorgeous place to be in the spring.

I need this one day. In fact, I might move right into it permanently.

How a week changes things. Our azaleas are really blooming now and our tree is looking nice as well. Also, a mowed lawn does wonders!
